The 31st Word University Summer Game officially opening in Chengdu on July 28, 2023. Chengdu Dong'an Lake Sports Park is the main venue for the WUSG. The scenery here is beautiful, with a vast and beautiful lake on the south side, undulating mountains on the east side of Longquan Mountain, and overlooking the snow-capped mountains on the north side. It is an excellent venue for Chengdu to practice the new development concept of park city and reshape the urban pattern, and it will also be the landscape parlor of Chengdu in the future
The overall architectural design of the stadium resembles a spaceship, a circular "flying saucer". Feature lighting emphasizes this theme and aesthetic and can be further activated through the use of highly flexible and dynamic components. In the dynamic changes of light and shadow, the simple architectural form highlights the modern characteristics and charm of Bashu, like a bright pearl, shining on the bank of Dong'an Lake.
The floodlighting design of Dong'an Lake Sports Park is inspired by Taoism, and the overall effect expands outwards from the main stadium, entrusting the philosophy of "Tao produces one, one produces two, two produces three, and three produces all things", reflecting that Chengdu spans time and space, constantly enriching the appearance of the times through inheritance and innovation. Looking at the sports park from a high place on the other side of the lake at night, the lights of the "one venue and three halls" are shining and full of brilliance. Floodlighting combined with post-operation needs, according to the use characteristics of venues in different occasions and at different times, is divided into basic lighting and opening and closing ceremony lighting. Among them, the basic lighting includes weekday mode and festival/game mode, and the energy-saving mode is closed and late at night.
he festival/game mode simulates the effect of meteors through the dynamic changes of the curtain wall, creating a sci-fi effect of "flying saucer" running and starting quickly. The dynamic speed of the "flying saucer" can change the rhythm according to the enthusiasm of the infield activities. At the same time, high-altitude tracking lights can be set according to the needs of different activities to create colorful lighting effects. The light beams connected to the sky endow the building with dynamic and vitality, creating majestic architectural momentum and gorgeous event atmosphere. The weekday mode increases the agility of the entire building at night through the diffuse lights and flashing star points between the horizontal lines, as if it is in dialogue with the surrounding environment, creating the feature of restful park city.
The four modes can be switched according to different needs through the intelligent control system, which can not only meet the creation of the on-site atmosphere of the competition activities, but also fully respond to the new needs of citizens' life, and blend into the surrounding environment and landscape with quiet and comfortable effect.
The floodlight effect of the main stadium is mainly based on the "Sun God Bird" roof liear lights on the top, soft strip lights on the facade, point lights and flood lights on the ground pole, with total of more than 1.3 million led chip and more than 30,000 meters of strip lights. Between the roof glass and the ceiling membrane, the main stadium has installed more than 8,000 sets of RGBWA surface-mounted rigid linear lights and wall washer lights, with total of more than 900,000 led chip. On the one hand, by using the different light transmittance of the roof pattern and non-pattern areas, the main stadium can also present the "Sun God Bird" pattern at night; and it can present golden light effect in the non-pattern areas, restoring the "Sun God Bird" to the greatest extent. Decorate with sense of history and sacredness.
The "Three Venues" floodlighting includes adjustable floodlights, roof surface-mounted floodlights, roof bendable LED flexible strip lights, handrail railings bendable LED flexible strip lights, and outdoor stair lights in the multi-functional gymnasium. About 540,000 led chip and more than 7,000 meters of strip lights. The four corners of the "Three Venues" are illuminated with emphasis to increase the overall sense of the building and highlight the simple and atmospheric structural form. The open louvers in the central area make the indoor lighting effect appear in the way of internal light and external light, showing rich sense of hierarchy.
A continuous linear strip light is integrated within the façade between each horizontally running louver, providing each louver with an indirect lighting effect. Individually addressable lighting fixtures provide full flexibility and create platform for low-resolution media content.
The Point lights components add brilliance to the façade. This important component contrasts with the main indirect lighting and ties into the overall concept of the spaceship theme
The second component of architectural lighting is the inner glow of the translucent tensile roof. Linear luminaires integrated within the structural elements of the roof illuminate into the stretched roof, creating homogeneous light ceiling both internally and externally. The roof of the stadium is called "Sun God Bird", the traditional bird image and the cultural symbol of Chengdu city, which is applied to create large graphic silhouette.
Lighting design must consider minimizing visual disturbance and light pollution to adjacent parks and natural habitats of flora and fauna.
